From a simple pitch to a finished film

Plume is a desktop writing studio for novelists. The starting point was a few sentences: software that helps structure a novel, not just type text into it. No existing visuals, no brand guidelines, no artwork to reuse.

The film builds all of it: an identity built on ink and a quill, a ten-scene narrative running from the blank-page problem through to a finished manuscript, and animated diagrams that show the software's key ideas rather than listing them.

How it was made

  • Every scene is written in React on a deterministic timeline engine — no layers in an editing suite.
  • The diagrams (blender, narrative arc, radar, gauge, phases) are computed SVG, animated frame by frame.
  • The sound design is synthesised with the Web Audio API and tuned to the music (F major / D minor), with a shared reverb.
  • The final render is deterministic: frame-by-frame export at 1920×1080, then an FFmpeg mux to H.264 at 60 fps.
